Workshop to prevent neonatal mortality held

Prayagraj: An Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (ANRP) workshop, focused on saving the lives of newborns, was held at Motilal Nehru Medical College, here on Sunday.

The primary objective of the workshop was to train physicians and healthcare workers to provide essential life-saving medical assistance to newborns immediately after birth.

The program was organized under the joint aegis of the Department of Pediatrics at MLN Medical College, the Prayagraj branch of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP), the National IAP, and the National Neonatology Forum.

The workshop’s course coordinator, Dr. Manish Maurya, head of pediatrics dept, said that 36 participants received training during the program. To ensure high-quality instruction, one facilitator was assigned for every six trainees. Participants received hands-on training in bag-mask ventilation, respiratory support, neonatal cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and other life-saving techniques.

Speaking on the occasion, principal, MLN Medial College, Dr. A.K. Verma said that, under ‘Indian Neonatal Action Plan,’ a target has been set to reduce the neonatal mortality rate to fewer than 10 deaths per 1,000 live births.

SIC (SRN Hospital) Dr. Neelam Singh said that the first few minutes following birth, often referred to as the “Golden Minutes” are critically important for a newborn’s survival and future health. She noted that if timely and appropriate medical assistance is provided during this crucial period, the lives of many newborns can be saved, and severe complications can be prevented.
