DM: Inspire youthwith 1857 legacy
Prayagraj: Keeping Allahabad free from British rule for 10 days was a significant historical event and we should all take pride in it and ensure the new generation is made aware of this history.Speaking at the ‘Pahli Azadi Mahotsav’ held at Kranti Bagh, district magistrate, Prayagraj, Manish Kumar Verma on Sunday remarked on the immense sacrifices made by ancestors to uphold India’s honour and dignity. He urged people to draw inspiration from them and reflect on how one contribute to the nation’s progress. The DM praised the ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhata’ organization and its convener Virendra Pathak for their inspiring work honoring the martyrs under the motto “Chalo Kuch Achcha Kare,” encouraging everyone to contribute positively to the country wherever they may be.Verma also emphasized that merely remembering history for a single day is insufficient and “we must personally commit to becoming responsible, ethical citizens.”Pathak recounted that the uprising began on June 6 under the leadership of Sepoy Ramchandra of the 6th Native Infantry. On June 7, revolutionaries proclaimed a govt at Khusro Bagh, which operated for 10 days under the leadership of Maulvi Liaquat Ali. He also spoke of the brutal suppression by Colonel Neill, noting that many Indians were hanged from trees across Allahabad (now Prayagraj) during that period.
He proposed renaming the site—the headquarters of the 1857 revolution—as “Kranti Bagh,” a proposal that was unanimously approved. He said that district administration would document the details of this event at the site and officially designate it as Kranti Bagh.
