92 vehicle owners challaned for flouting traffic norms

Prayagraj: In a step towards checking tipsy driving, over-loading and vehicle owners using pressure horns sans high security number plates, the range police on Saturday night carried out a special checking drive in Pratapgarh and Fatehpur district. Around 92 vehicle owners were found flouting the norms and more than Rs 6.50 lakh fine was collected.A team of Pratapgarh police on Saturday night carried out checking at Kotila Akhtiyari toll plaza on Prayagraj-Lucknow highway and caught four truck drivers under the influence of alcohol and imposed fine to the tune of Rs 10,000 each. Cops also challaned two vehicle owners for using modified silencers and fined Rs 10,000 each. 18 vehicle owners were challaned for using pressure horns ( Rs 1.80 lakh), two vehicle owners for hooters \sirens ( Rs 20,000 fine) and 27 vehicle owners for not installing high security number plates and realised Rs 1.35 from them. A vehicle owner using black film was also fined for Rs 2,500.Police teams checked 241 drivers\ vehicles with the help of breath analyzers passing through the toll plaza. Police challaned 54 vehicle owners and imposed fine on each of the offending drivers and compounding fees (challans) amounting to Rs 3,97,500 was realised.In Fatehpur district, cops carried out checking at Badauri and Katoghan toll plazas and fine 20 truck drivers each of Rs 10,000 for tipsy driving and also realised Rs 1.40 lakh from 18 other drivers for violating traffic norms.A senior cop said, “The police has appealed motorists to strictly adhere to road safety regulations. Similar strict action will continue to be taken in the future against those who violate traffic laws.”
