Medical report: Trump's doctor declares him 'fully fit' but 'should lose weight'
US President Donald Trump's latest medical report, released on Friday, declared the 79-year-old president to be in 'excellent health' and fully capable of carrying out the duties of commander-in-chief. However, his physician also advised him to lose weight and increase physical activity as part of preventive health measures.
The report was issued by White House physician Dr Sean Barbabella after Trump underwent a routine medical examination at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on Tuesday. According to the assessment, the president remains physically and cognitively fit despite approaching his 80th birthday next month.
Barbabella said Trump underwent an extensive evaluation involving 22 specialists, including CT scans, cardiac imaging, cancer screenings and a series of preventive assessments, AFP reported.
"President Trump remains in excellent health, demonstrating strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall physical function," the physician wrote. He said that president is "fully fit to carry out all duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State".
Rapid Response in a post on X, welcoming the report wrote, "President Trump remains in excellent health."
The report showed that Trump currently weighs 238 pounds (108 kilograms), up from 224 pounds (101.6 kilograms) during his previous annual examination in April 2025.
Standing 6 feet 3 inches tall, the president was advised to focus on weight reduction, maintain a healthier diet and increase physical activity. Barbabella said preventive counselling had been provided, including guidance on continued weight loss and cardiovascular health.
The report also observed that Trump currently takes three medications, including two cholesterol-control drugs and a low-dose aspirin prescribed for cardiac prevention.
One of the most closely watched sections of the report addressed recurring questions about visible bruising on Trump's hands, which have attracted public attention in recent months.
According to Barbabella, the bruising is consistent with minor soft tissue irritation caused by frequent handshaking while taking aspirin, which can increase the tendency to bruise.
"Examination of the dorsal hands revealed ecchymosis (bruising), consistent with minor soft tissue irritation related to frequent handshaking in the setting of aspirin use for cardiovascular prevention," the memo stated.
The medical update comes amid growing scrutiny of Trump's health as he becomes the oldest serving US president in history. Over the past year, speculation has surrounded visible bruising on his hands, swelling in his legs, reports that he appeared drowsy during some public events and a rash that appeared on his neck earlier this year.
The White House had previously disclosed that Trump was diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a common age-related condition that affects blood circulation in the legs. Officials also said a neck rash observed in March was linked to preventive skin treatment, although further details were not provided.
Trump and his aides have consistently rejected suggestions of any significant health concerns. The president has frequently highlighted his stamina and mental sharpness, making physical fitness a key part of his public image throughout his political career.
Health disclosures surrounding US presidents have come under greater scrutiny in recent years, particularly following widespread concerns about the fitness of former US President Joe Biden. Against that backdrop, Trump's latest medical report is likely to face close examination as he continues his presidency while approaching his 80th birthday.
Despite recommending weight loss and increased exercise, Barbabella's overall assessment remained unequivocal, stating that Trump's 'cognitive and physical performance are excellent' and that he remains fully fit to lead the United States.
