Calgary Flames eyeing another victory as they take on Seattle Kraken

NEW DELHI: When the Calgary Flames previously visited Seattle, they were in the midst of a challenging six-game losing streak. However, a decisive 6-3 triumph on Nov. 4 at Climate Pledge Arena, featuring Mikael Backlund's season-highlighting two goals, kickstarted a more positive stretch of 4-1-2 for the Flames.

Calgary is set to face the Kraken again on Monday, and both teams are carrying some momentum into the matchup. Even a narrow 5-4 shootout loss to the New York Islanders on Saturday hasn't dampened the Flames' spirits, as they displayed resilience by equalizing the score twice in the third period.

"I think we're in a good place," remarked Calgary forward Blake Coleman. "You've got to focus on the game itself, not that extra piece of it, but I think the confidence is really growing in this group."

Flames coach Ryan Huska expressed satisfaction with his team's effort, emphasizing their refusal to quit. Despite the shootout setback, he noted the team's improvement as the game progressed.

The Flames, now 0-3 in shootouts this season, are aiming to enhance their performance in these crucial situations. Last season, they led the NHL in overtime and shootout losses with 17, narrowly missing the playoffs by two points.

"We've got to find a way to win these shootouts and OT games because they're going to be valuable points down the road," said Coleman, who leads the team with five goals this season.

On the other side, the Kraken secured a 4-3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday, with Jordan Eberle contributing a goal and two assists, and Matty Beniers adding one of each.

Seattle has shown improvement with a 2-0-1 record over the past three games and back-to-back wins, a feat achieved only once earlier in the season.

Kraken coach Dave Hakstol praised Beniers, the reigning Calder Trophy winner, for his recent performances, acknowledging the offensive side of his game starting to shine.

"He's been playing hard," said Hakstol of Beniers. "Obviously, the offensive side is starting to come. There's still another notch or two there, but he's looking more and more comfortable."

The Kraken will kick off a three-game homestand on Monday, while the Flames embark on a challenging stretch of four consecutive road games.
