Canada issues highest travel warnings for high-risk countries

Canada has recently updated its international travel advisory, issuing its highest-level warnings for several countries it considers too dangerous for Canadian travellers. Updated on the official travel.gc.ca website in the first week of January, the advisories urge Canadians to avoid travel to certain destinations, citing factors such as political instability, armed conflict, civil unrest, security threats, disrupted flight access and limited capacity for consular assistance.

Canada has advised its citizens to avoid all travel to Iran, citing nationwide protests, regional tensions, the risk of arbitrary detention and unpredictable enforcement of local laws. It warned that Iranian authorities have detained foreign and dual nationals for political leverage, urged Canadians to leave if it is safe to do so, noted widespread flight suspensions, and said its ability to provide consular assistance in Iran is extremely limited. South Sudan

Canada has advised its citizens to avoid all travel to South Sudan due to ongoing security instability, armed conflict, inter-ethnic violence, and high levels of violent crime. Yemen

Canada has advised against all travel to Yemen, including the island of Socotra, citing ongoing armed conflict, terrorism, kidnapping risks and regional tensions. Canadians currently in the country have been urged to leave if it is safe to do so. (Image: US department of state)

India on 'high degree of caution' list

In its advisory last updated in December 2025, Canada placed India under a “high degree of caution” due to the “threat of terrorist attacks throughout the country.” It advised against all travel to Jammu and Kashmir and border areas with Pakistan in Gujarat, Punjab and Rajasthan, while recommending that non-essential travel be avoided to Assam and Manipur. Your headline is a lie, upsetting people unnecessarily. It is not a ban, but an advisory. Canadians can travel there at their own risk. They can also go to what is considered the more dangerous parts of India at this time, but its providing information that its better to be in other parts of India instead.
