Assembly polls 2023: How BJP expanded support in Christian-majority Meghalaya and Nagaland
In the Assembly polls to the three northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland, what has emerged as a clear pattern is that BJP being able to establish strongholds in Christian-majority states of Nagaland and Meghalaya. While Opposition parties generally believe that BJP is a pro-Hindu party with its core voter base in North India, the party itself has expanded its appeal to non-Hindu and indigenous groups in the Northeast. Analysts believe that the RSS as well as the BJP have taken steps to win over Christians and this has paid dividends during the polls.
