335 Detainees Held As Bengal Activates Holding Centres Under Detect Delete Deport Policy
West Bengal government has set up 11 holding centres across the state under its detect, delete and deport policy for illegal immigrants. Officials said 335 detainees, including men, women and children, are currently housed in these facilities. Basirhat in North 24 Parganas has the highest numbers. Centres operate in multiple districts and will eventually be expanded further. The move follows Union Home Ministry guidelines, allowing detention for up to 30 days during verification and deportation of undocumented foreigners.
