Maharashtra: Doctors stop emergency services in protest after patient stabbed resident doctor in Yamatval
A first year resident doctor of the general surgery department of Vasantrao Naik Government Medical College and Hospital (VNGMCH) in Yavatmal was stabbed by a patient on the neck with a knife at around 9pm on Thursday. Dr Sebastian Paul, junior resident 1, was on evening round when a patient, Suraj, stabbed him. Another junior resident doctor Abhishek Jha, who tried to save Paul, also sustained injuries. Dr Paul is severely injured and underwent a surgery, sources said. On Thursday evening, Dr Paul and Dr Jha, along with a female resident doctor, went to the ward for the evening round. When they reached Suraj's bed, he took the sharp knife and stabbed the doctor without any provocation. Both Dr Paul and Dr Jha have been shifted to ICU. The female doctor was also admitted in the ICU as she was under panic.
