Every day 70-year-old Anna Thai sits by the river, into which the city’s sewage flows in, to operate a wooden raft. On it, she helps residents of Srinivasapuram cross the river and reach the other bank. More than 1,000 people from the slums take this Rs 2 raft ride across the river to earn a living. The raft has no oar, it is operated by a crafty innovation, a nylon rope is tied to both ends of the raft.
