NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has said if measures to trim the fiscal deficit work and problems with environment and forest clearances are sorted, India can get back to the 8% growth path in a couple of years.Singh said the FM has given every ministry “enough to chew on” and the country is in no mood to lose time. “It must get its act together to accelerate the tempo of growth.” PM’s wife Gursharan Kaur was in the Speaker’s gallery, next to the FM’s family.
Sonia Gandhi didn’t offer any reactions, but heard the FM attentively. Singh said the newly-formed Cabinet Committee on Investment will grapple with problems of green clearances.
