allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at their house at
Manikonda
on Tuesday evening. Police suspect the trigger for the suicide might have been alleged dowry harassment and his affair with a co-worker.
Raidurgam police took Madhu Prakash, who worked in Rajamouli's film, Baahubali, into custody.
Bharathi, 34, a private employee, had married Madhu in 2015. “Madhu was having an affair with a co-worker and his wife found out about it,” Raidurgam inspector S Ravinder said
Bharathi video called Madhu while he was shooting and threatened to kill herself. She allegedly even showed him that she was going to commit suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan at their house at Panchavati colony in Manikonda, police added.
"She had threatened him to come home or else she will hang herself. As she had issued similar threats earlier, Madhu ignored her call and returned home around 7.30pm after the shoot. When she did not open the door, he entered the house using a duplicate key and found her hanging from the ceiling fan inside their house. No suicide note was found in the house," the officer said. For the past two years, Madhu was allegedly harassing her for additional dowry too, police said.
“The victim's family gave Rs 15 lakh cash at the time of marriage and he started harassing her for Rs 15 lakh additional dowry,” the Raidurgam inspector added.
A case was registered against Madhu under Section 304-B (
dowry death
) of the IPC. Bharathi's body was shifted to Osmania Hospital for an autopsy.
