Bigg Boss Telugu: Times when netizens slammed host Nagarjuna Akkineni in the history of the TV series so far

Nagarjuna has been one of the most successful hosts of Bigg Boss Telugu. But he was trolled on multiple occasions during the course of time for everything around hosting. Here's a quick recap of some instances when he was trolled by netizens.

2/9

Host questioned for grilling Faima about her role as a sanchalak

Host Nagarjuna Akkineni can be spotted grilling Faima about her role as a sanchalak in the previous captaincy task. He questions Faima about her 'biased' suggestions during the task. This did not go well with a section of netizens who questioned him about the same on social media. They are asking why he didn't talk about previous instances when sanchalaks were allegedly 'biased' but chose to find fault with Faima now.

Netizens slam host Nagarjuna for discussing tea preparation over contestants' behaviour and performance

One of the recent weekend episodes of Bigg Boss Telugu season 6 was expected to discuss the performance of Team Red and Team Blue in the captaincy contender task. However, it turned out to be a disappointment for many who expected host Nagarjuna to grill Team Red including Revanth, Inaya, Sri Satya, Srihan and Geetu. The host started addressing Baladitya's emotional outburst on Geetu, and later moved on to appreciating Team Blue's performance. He grilled ex-captain Srihan about going easy on Geetu, and gave Revanth a 'yellow card' for his aggression towards Inaya during the task besides appreciating Sri Satya, the new captain of the house. The conflict over tea, food and wastage of food then took center stage where Nagarjuna schooled the contestants about food management with some videos. The host had an elaborate discussion over preparation of tea with Inaya where he even got the LIVE audience correct her over the right method to prepare tea, her belief that housemates are 'targeting' her and her communication problem with them.

This did not go well with netizens, who expected topics like aggression during the task, the tactics employed by Team Red to win, the alleged bullying faced by Raj and more to be addressed. They slammed Nagarjuna alleging him of being 'biased' and prioritising 'unwanted topics' in the episode. This was not the first time Nagarjuna was slammed by netizens for his style of hosting.

For his ‘Bigg Boss is voyeuristic’ comment

Commenting on Bigg Boss Telugu season 2 in one of his interviews to a news channel in 2018, Nagarjuna had stated that he doesn’t like the concept of Bigg Boss as it is ‘voyeuristic’. He initially asked the interviewer to avoid asking about the show but when prodded, Nagarjuna added he doesn’t enjoy the idea of watching what the other person is doing. He was trolled on social media for signing the show despite such a comment. While a section of netizens pinpointed the contradiction in his speech and actions, others accused him of being ‘money-minded’.

However, Nagarjuna opened the premiere of Bigg Boss Telugu 3 with his clarification. Maintaining that he can’t live in the Bigg Boss house even for a single day, Nagarjuna stated that he wanted to host the show to know why people follow it. He further justified that the heart is as fickle as a monkey and his curiosity has propelled him to host the show.

For not reacting on casting couch allegations against Bigg Boss organisers

Nagarjuna chose not to officially comment on the casting couch allegations made against a few Bigg Boss organisers by a Hyderabad-based journalist and young actress for almost a week after the show commenced on July 21. His silence was questioned on social media and a few student groups also protested outside his residence in Hyderabad demanding him to step down as a host of the show.

However, replying to a question on the issue at a promotional event of his recent release, Nagarjuna stated that he is happy that the Telangana High Court and Hyderabad police are looking into the issue and if the allegations are true, the wrongdoers must be punished.

6/9

For hugging females while shaking hands with male contestants

Nagarjuna is a charismatic actor and TV host. However, the way he welcomed the contestants of Bigg Boss Telugu 3 in its premiere was trolled on social media. Netizens criticized the way he hugged most of the female contestants while he just shook hands with the male contestants. The entire sequence became the fodder for memes on the internet.

7/9

For being allegedly lenient towards female contestants

Nagarjuna didn’t take much time to take charge of the show in his debut season (season 3). However, his style of hosting didn’t go well with a section of netizens who complained that he was being lenient towards a few female contestants and grilling male contestants. Nagarjuna was trolled for not discussing their mistakes in the episodes. However, he eventually proved them wrong by roasting Vithika, Punarnavi, Sreemukhi and others for their behaviour and strategies.

8/9

For skipping the show and holidaying on birthday

Host Nagarjuna rang in his 60th birthday with family in Ibiza, Spain, on August 29, a few days before the weekend episode. So, he was unavailable for the shoot of the episode and popular actress Ramyakrishnan stepped into his shoes as a host for that weekend. This is the first-of-its-kind incident in the history of the Bigg Boss Telugu series. Nagarjuna received flak on social media for ignoring the show for his personal reasons.

9/9

Comparisons with Ramyakrishnan and Nani

Netizens were all praise for Ramyakrishnan, who stepped into host Nagarjuna Akkineni’s shoes in his absence, proving the naysayers wrong with her style of hosting. Ramyakrishnan won accolades for the way she handled the housemates and grilled them for their mistakes in the week, which was quite different from Nagarjuna’s style of hosting. Fans on social media, who were quite impressed with Ramyakrishnan’s stint, have wished she continues for the rest of the season instead of Nagarjuna. Drawing comparisons with Ramyakrishnan and Bigg Boss Telugu 2 host Nani, Nagarjuna was slammed for the way he deals with the housemates and the issues in the house.
