Rebecca Santhosh to Suchithra Nair: Malayalam TV celebs talk about the 'new normal' on shoot sets

The indoor shoots of Malayalam TV shows have started recently after a break of two months. Limited number of crew members wearing masks, PPE kits, sanitizing the sets, maintaining social distancing and many more have become the 'new normal' now. Here’s what TV celebs have to say about the ‘new normal’ on the shooting sets.

Rekha Ratheesh

"One of the best things about the regulations is that the team is particular about wrapping up the shoots early these days. By maximum 7.30 PM, the shoots get over which was never the case earlier. It is tough to shoot with minimum people, but we are proving that we can do it. Work is being done at a rapid pace and sets are not crowded anymore," said Manjil Virnja Poovu's Mallika aka Rekha Ratheesh.

"In a way, the bond with the smaller team is getting stronger now. We are helping each other. Even our director is helping us with costumes and makeup. Another change is the shooting time. Of late, the shoots are wrapping up by 7 PM," Jithu shared.

Marimayam fame Sneha Sreekumar said, "The changes are so evident in the entire set. From the makeup room to the cafeteria, everything has changed. Usually, we have 4 makeup artists but now it's only two and they both are wearing face shields and gloves. Earlier, we all used to sit together and have food, it was a fun moment. But, now everyone gets a separate food packet. Artists are only allowed to remove the mask when they step onto the stage. Checking body temperatures and sanitizing hands and shooting sets has become a mandate. They are even sanitizing lapels and other equipment at regular intervals.”

Lekshmi Pramod

"Happy that shoots have resumed. It is the livelihood of many. But, the tension is high. Recently, I started following the practice of self-quarantining for a week after each schedule before meeting my 3-year-old daughter. We need to work but I am not ready to put my little one at risk," Lekshmi shared.

Suchithra Nair

"Now if there is a requirement of a prop in a scene, we don't wait for the art guy to come and fix it. We take the initiative and help the team in all possible ways. As the number of crew members has reduced, everyone is lending a help handle in everything. To be on the safer side, we all are provided with separate water bottles and food packets. Everyone on the sets wears masks and gloves. Soon after a 'cut', the production controller would come with a hand sanitizer," Suchithra shared her shoot experience on 'Vanambadi' location.

Rebecca Santhosh

Talking about the new changes on the shooting sets as per the government‘s guidelines, Kasthooriman actress Rebecca Santhosh shared, "There are many changes around us, which is definitely in the best interest of everyone. As there are very few crew members, we are helping out each other. From holding the mirror for each other to carrying makeup bags, we are trying our best to cope up.”
