Here's what Krishna Kumar has to say about his comeback on TV after 15 years

It almost feels nostalgic to see Krishna Kumar back on the small screen in a new family drama. The actor has made a return to the small screen with a leading role in a serial, titled Koodevide, which started earlier this month. In a candid chat with Kochi Times, the actor shared the reason for his comeback and more...

After 15 years

Speaking about his return from a nearly 15-year gap before which he had made a mark with a successful TV career, Krishna Kumar says, “Even when I was doing serials, I was pursuing good roles in movies. And when I sought out roles, I was told that I had been overexposed on TV. So while I continued to get offered good parts in serials, I decided to not do any more TV roles, so that I could switch to films.”

The pandemic

The actor found success in the Tamil industry where he did a few films and things were just beginning to look up here when the pandemic hit. “Even when close associates called for TV roles, I was holding out and saying no. But when I saw how badly Covid-19 was affecting the industry, I felt I should not turn down the offer to do Koodevide, where I would be playing a leading role,” he says.

Message for viewers

In the show, Krishna Kumar plays a divorcee, Aadi, with a grown up son, in a family that runs an engineering college. As for playing the father of a ‘bad boy’ in Koodevide, Krishna Kumar says, he is keen that a story has some moral for the audience and portray the triumph of good over evil. “I guess the serial will move towards this message,” he says.

Another reason

It would be a miss to not mention the fact that he is a father to four social media celebrity daughters, including actor Ahaana Krishna, and in fact, he says while he liked the production and story of Koodevide, he had another reason for taking it up. “My daughters are playing leading ladies in movies and I can’t be a hero in films, so I’ll be a hero in a serial,” he says, laughing.

Back to 'home ground'

The actor was also prompted by the feeling that he would be making his return to ‘home ground’ with the channel where he had his most successful run, with superhit serials, such as Sthree, Vasundara Medicals, Sreeraman Sreedevi, Swantham and Malayogam, which has had an amazing connect with viewers for years.
