Ruslaan Mumtaz on wife's delivery during lockdown: We were advised to leave the hospital in a day as it was opening up for Covid-19 patients

Balika Vadhu fame Ruslaan Mumtaz and wife Nirali welcomed their first child - a baby boy (now named Rayaan) - on March 26. While the actor is overjoyed about becoming a parent, he shared their experience of the baby's delivery during the nationwide lockdown, which came with its own set of problems. Drive to the hospital and extra checking

Talking about the time when Nirali's water bag broke at night, Ruslaan said, "Even at 9.30 pm, there was not one car or person on the streets. It felt like a movie, and was quite freaky. At the hospital, there was a lot of checking. They didn't want anyone extra. By the time we reached, Nirali's doctor was already there." (Photo: Instagram)

Allowed to be with his wife during labour

Ruslaan shared, "I was with Nirali in the labour room." The feeling of seeing his baby, Rayaan, for the first time was exhilarating for the actor. Ruslaan also joked his parents had said that babies look like mice when they come out. He said it wasn't so in his case. "I called them after my baby was born and told them he looks good." Bonding instantly with his little bundle of joy

Unlike what he had thought, Ruslaan bonded instantly with his son. He narrated, "When I saw the baby, his eyes were open. He was quite expressive. I had the impression that babies become active after a month. He was screaming, but I talked to him and he immediately stopped. It was an instant bond." (Photo: Instagram)

When they were advised to leave the hospital in a day

Due to the Covid-19 lockdown, Ruslaan and Nirali were advised to leave the hospital unexpectedly on March 27. He shared with us, "We were supposed to stay at the hospital for two more nights, but the authorities first asked us to change Nirali's room to a different floor. An hour later, the doctor informed us that the hospital had opened up for Covid-19 patients and suggested us to leave. We had to leave in one day. They said the baby and the mother are healthy and it would be safer for them to be at home. We had thought we'd be there for a little longer to learn how to manage the baby. (Photo: Instagram)

On doing away with a nanny due to coronavirus scare

Ruslaan told us they had booked a nanny to take care of their child but due to the lockdown they were advised against it. He said, "The doctors suggested us not to let anyone touch our baby unless they have been in our house for more than 15 days. Nirali and I now have to figure out things for ourselves." Thankfully the actor's mother is presently staying with him. (Photo: Instagram)

Sad about family and friends not getting to meet his newborn

Ruslaan rued, "It's a sad thing that none of our friends and families would be able to see the baby." Hence, the actor decided to post Rayaan's pictures immediately on social media as opposed to how he had planned, "I had thought I won't put up my newborn's pictures for a long time. In fact, I used to judge other people for posting their baby's photos. But then I felt it might help in cheering people in these negative times." (Photo: Instagram)

On daddy duties

Ruslaan said, "I always thought I wouldn't be hands-on. I never saw myself changing diapers etc. I thought we will hire someone to take care of all this, and Nirali and I would still get time...our life won't change. But the baby changes your mindset. We have been awake for the last two nights, but I didn't get upset. I just had to do it." (Photo: Instagram)

Changed mindset due to a child being born during pandemic

Ruslaan concluded, "After the baby, I am bothered about the elderly, the children and the babies. I now have someone to look after. Having a baby during this time has changed me a lot. My mindset has changed." (Photo: Instagram)
