Reem Shaikh talks about her injury on sets of Laughter Chefs: My parents feared the scars would affect my career, went against them and posted pictures

Reem Shaikh who was recently seen in the fun culinary-based show Laughter Chefs had suffered from severe burns on the sets of the show. In a recent podcast, for the first time, the actress opened up about the injury that she faced and her belief that she would heal from it. Reem shared how she went against her parents and posted the picture of her scars and also revealed how she was tensed that she might get replaced from her lined-up projects.

How did she get injured?

I was making chashni and while cooking suddenly it popped up and splashed on my face. So when it splashed its impact felt like glass broke on my face and it was extremely hot. The moment it happened, I thought it went in my eye and I was really scared. I was trying to process what happened. I have to say that I had the best team of Laughter Chefs with me. Everyone came running to me. Arjun, Aly, Jannat, Bharti Di, Krushna Bhaiya and Kash stood by me and made sure I was fine.

Reem took the incident positively

I took this incident so positively. Not because I am all mahan or something. It could have been worse, if you see the pictures closely the splashes were all around my eyes. Luckily nothing happened to my eye. Mere ek bhi baal banka nahi hua hai. I have gotten saved. It wasn't water or oil, it was Chashni and what if it got stuck in my eye, it would have been very difficult to remove that. But I must say, the whole team of Laughter Chefs was extremely supportive.

Bharti Singh coming to her station at that time was a blessing in disguise

Usually, we cook food while watching it, but luckily at that time Bharti di had come and I was talking to her so my face wasn't directly in front of the pan and that's when it happened. If it was supposed to be worse then it could have happened when I was watching it then my eyes would have been terribly affected. So yes, something unfortunate happened but god still saved me. It could have been life-changing, and god saved me from the worst.

5/12

Talks about the positive approach

If there is such an obstacle, god has been kind and blessed me with the fortune that I can fix my face and scars. A lot of people face such huge accidents and they don't even have enough money to get proper treatment for it. I am blessed that if something like this happened, I have the money, and the resources to get the best treatment for myself. So there is absolutely nothing that I could be sad about. It is good that I took it positively.

On waking up with a swollen face

I am not saying it wasn't difficult. People know or not, that when a skin burns, it takes a few hours to determine the intensity and severity of burns and how the dark marks are going to be. The next day when I woke up, I woke with half of my face swollen. The water bags around my eye were filled and due to that, my eye and half of my face were completely swollen.

7/12

It was hard for her to accept that face

There were days and moments when I saw my face in front of the mirror and I felt that I was not prepared to see this. But my faith in god and my firm belief helped me sail through this. I have always had the strength to overcome everything that has happened in my life.

8/12

How her grandmother had an intuition

I was really scared when that happened, they took me to the room and for the first time, I saw my face. Till then nobody was giving me the mirror because my intense three burns around my eye had all skin off. And then when I saw my face in the vanity, I was in tears. Out of nowhere, I got a call from my grandmother. She asked me whether I was fine as she felt something was wrong with me. I lied to her but then she came to know from my mom.

9/12

The whole career was at stake

My whole career is dependent on my face, I thought I would have to leave the Industry. When this happened, I was tensed about my career and I did have projects lined up. The reason why actors have to work despite being unwell is because we are the face of the project, if we don't turn up the whole unit will suffer. My thought was that what if my lined-up projects would suffer and there would be recasting? And when that happens it does break my heart.

10/12

Reem's parents weren't okay with her posting the pictures

My parents were not okay with me posting any pictures of myself with those scars. They said that 'you are an actor and your career depends on this. For no reason, things would spread. And then if they will see the face, they will come to know how terrible the scars are.' I then said, 'No, I have taken it gracefully and I want people to know that no matter how bad things happen, there is always something positive to think about.'

11/12

Reem went against her parents and posted the pictures of her scars

I actually went against my parents and posted myself with that face. I felt like I had to do this. I have worked since childhood in the Industry, I have faced enough trolling. Even with this podcast, people would comment on how I look or if I have breakouts. I can't make everyone understand what I am going through. I am going to be like this, and I will always be so I don't take these comments seriously. Ghar ke andar bhi log bolte hai toh yeh toh phir bhi bahar wale hai.

12/12

Reem on how the makers of Laughter Chefs had faith in her

I told the director about the injury and they had faith in me. They waited for me to be completely fine and resume shooting. This gave me strength that my career was safe and all I needed to do is have faith in the process.
