Actor Param Singh (of Ghulaam fame) had quite a lot of things on his mind when he recently visited the city. With one whole day to spend in Lucknow during the promotion of his show, the actor had been flooded with requests from his friends in Mumbai to bring things for them from the city.
“When everyone on the sets got to know that I am going to Lucknow, they drew up a big list of things to be brought by me from Lucknow for them.
While someone wanted chikan kurtis from here, most of them wanted me to get kebabs for them. A friend toh even asked me to get supaari from here. I am wondering ki main kis-kis ki wishes poori karoon,“ laughed the actor. However, Param had his plans too in place for his visit to Lucknow. The actor went on a food trail to Chowk to try the famous kulche nihari, kebabs and biryani.

In fact, not many people know that I was born in Kanpur, though I was only a few months old when I shifted to Mumbai with my parents. But most of my relatives still live in Kanpur and Lucknow. As a kid, I used to come to Kanpur and Lucknow during my summer vacations. I still remember how excited I used to be about the train journey from Mumbai to Lucknow in Pushpak Express. I used to go to Aminabad and Hazratganj with my cousins,“ says Param, who went straight to Chowk soon after his professional commitments were over.
“I love eating good food. In fact, I have this habit of eating every two hours. And Lucknow mein aake yahan ka khana nahi khaya toh bahut nainsaafi hogi. Yahan ka khana lajawab hai,“ said the actor, adding, “I had heard so much about Lakhnawi kulcha nihari that I had planned on having it any which way when I came to Lucknow.“ And Param did just that. He got down from his car just before Akbari gate and sampled whatever he could lay his hands on en route Mubeen's and Tundey .
Seeing a restaurant serving tandoori chicken, Param urged us to stop there as he tried his hand at roasting the chicken in the tandoor.“This looks so yummy that I feel like having it just now,“ said he, enjoying every bit of the attention he got from the passerbys who stopped and clicked his pictures with their cellphones. Continuing further, Param also sampled the roasted kaleji being served at the roadside kiosks. But not wanting to kill his appetite for the nihari kulcha, Param eventually reached Mubeen's and had his fill of the dish. “I loved this dish. I also loved the kebabs at Tundey's. They just melted in my mouth. In fact, mujhe bahut saare logon ne bola tha ki Lucknow ke kabab khaate hi mooh mein ghul jaate hain. I thought they were just exaggerating but only after eating them I actually understood that they were so right in the expression.“
Having eaten his fill of nonveg dishes, Param wanted to end his tour in Chowk by eating paan. “I was told by my teammates that Lucknow ka paan bhi bahut famous hai and I want to have a special paan ki gilori,“ he said. And thus began the hunt for that perfect paan. Finally having spotted a shop, Param started a conversation with the paan wallah and tasted several paans. “This paan that I had was huge in size and I had two of them. Dekh ke lag raha tha ki main itna bada paan kaise khaunga, but then after eating one, I had another one. The paan was the best part about my visit to Lucknow,“ shared Param.
