From starting as a qawwali singer to owning expensive accessories; Bigg Boss 16 winner MC Stan’s rags to riches story

MC Stan lifted the Bigg Boss 16 trophy on February 12 and shocked everyone. The rapper was addressed by host Salman Khan as ‘Basti ka hasti’ and everyone cheered for him. The rapper, who won Rs 31 lakh 80 thousand cash and a car along with the BB16 trophy, did not have it the easy way. From living in slums to owning some expensive accessories, MC Stan has come a long way. Here, take a look at his rags to riches story.

Learning qawwali

Much before getting introduced to hip-hop, MC Stan started singing qawwalis at the age of 12. He also did B-Boying dancing and beat boxing before venturing into rapping.

Living in slum

MC Stan was born on August 30, 1999 in the slum areas of Pune to a Muslim family. At his young age, their livelihood saw financial struggles. Coming from an ordinary background, MC Stan began his music career much before his education completed and made a name for himself in the Hip hop area. He had to endure a lot of taunts from family and friends at first and spend the nights on the streets without money.

Learning to rap in 6th standard

He discovered hip hop in 6th standard. It was his brother, who introduced him to English artists. MC Stan would listen to English hip-hop artists and then took English lessons to understand the lyrics of the songs by popular rappers. With his song he also got into a diss rap battle with popular rap artists like Emiway Bantai and had a faced a lot of backlash.

MC Stan’s father is in the police department

Many don’t know but MC Stan’s father is a policeman in the Maharashtra police department. While initially he faced objection from his family for being inclined to music more than education, with his success he gained support from them.

Massive social media following

MC Stan had a massive social media and fan following, which he proved by winning the Bigg Boss 16 trophy. His current social media following is 8.7M (at the time of writing) and it’s just increasing. However, you will be surprised to know that he follows no one.

Mired in controversies

Right from starting off on the wrong foot but going into a diss battle with eminent music artists at the beginning of his career to being subject of a police investigation into an assault allegation, MC Stan had made headlines at times for wrong reasons. Back then, his ex-girlfriend had complained that he allegedly sent his manager to beat her up. This incident took place after MC Stan and complainant Auzma Shaikh posted each others’ residential address on social media platforms following their break-up.

Expensive accessories

Those who have seen him in the show, know MC Stan loves his accessories. Reportedly he owns a customised diamond necklace worth Rs 1.5 crores with Hindi written in bold. This chain is also believed to be the largest diamond chain owned by any Hip-hop celebrity, according to reports. He also wears a 60-carat diamond pendant, which is ‘₹’ symbol. He lives in high fashion and owns some exquisite and expensive pieces. Apart from wearing branded clothes, his shoes are equally expensive. Contestants would often joke about MC Stan’s expensive collection. Stan once cried saying how everyone makes fun of it.
