From saving up bus ticket money to buy t-shirts to having chapatis and dal for Rs 2; Archana Puran Singh recalls her struggling days in Mumbai

Archana Puran Singh has been a part of both TV and Films, the actress not only acted in TV shows but also hosted a few. In her recent vlog with her friends Ranvir Shorey and Vinay Pathak, she recalled the old days when she used to do shows like Lux Kya Scene Hai, Mr Ya Mrs and more.

Archana recalls Naseeruddin Shah's iconic scenes in Jalwa

Naseer used to pump up just before the shot. Wherever he had the bare-chested shot, he would do push-ups just before they start shooting and then he would shoot for the scenes. And Amitji's cameo in the film was absolutely iconic. You cannot forget those moments from Jalwa.

Vinay Pathak calls these shows of Archana 'iconic'

Vinay Pathak recalls the iconic works of Archana Puran Singh, admires her for her TV show Mr Ya Mrs with Jayant Kriplani and calls them one of the hottest couples on screen back then. Vinay also mentions Lux Kya Scene Hai. Parmeet adds that he was dating Archana at that time.

Archana shares an anecdote of Lux Kya Scene Hai

In those days, there used to be postcards and people used to write and send their requests on them. I would ask them what they would like to see, any iconic scenes of Mr Bachchan. Usually, the requests would come for AmitJi. We used to get a million postcards in a week. When Rupert Murdoch came to India, he said, because of our show, the Indian Government had decided to pass a law that requests shouldn't be sent by postcards as it was very cheap back then so then they had to send the request through the actual card so that the government would also make money.

When Archana didn't have a TV to watch her own show

I used to live in PG back then and I didn't even have a TV so I used to request my landlady to turn on the TV at 10 pm so that I could see my episode, at times she used to refuse so I have missed watching many of my episodes because I didn't have a TV to watch my own show.

6/7

Archana would save up bus tickets to buy new t-shirts

The Bus ticket used to be 50 paisa, so I used to save that amount and go walking for the auditions and modelling projects. So when I used to save up around 6 rupees by doing that, I would buy a t-shirt with that money.

7/7

When she used to have lunch worth Rs 2

I used to stay in Churchgate, there used to be a MLA hostel and there was a canteen below that, they used to give lunch for Rs 2. There would be dal like water for Re 1 and chapatis for 10 paisa. I would buy 10 chapatis, they used to be thin like paper, so I used to buy dal and chapati for 2 rupees as my lunch.
