From getting engaged at the age of 19 to taking injections for being cheated on; RJ Mahvash on love, relationship and marriage

RJ Mahvash recently opened up about a deeply painful chapter in her life in a podcast with Yuvaa, recalling how she was cheated on three times by her fiancé. The emotional turmoil took a toll on her mental and physical health, leading to severe panic attacks that even required medical attention. Through her journey, Mahvash has gained a new perspective on relationships, marriage, and self-worth, emphasizing personal growth and resilience.

On Marriage

“I am very much single, and I don’t understand the concept of marriage in today’s time,” Mahvash stated firmly. She believes in dating only for marriage and does not indulge in casual relationships. Comparing herself to a character from Dhoom, she shared how she envisions a family-oriented future but currently does not relate to the idea of marriage, putting it on hold for now.

On Being Engaged at the Age of 19

Mahvash revealed that she was engaged at just 19 but decided to call it off by 21. Growing up in Aligarh, she was conditioned to believe that marriage was the ultimate goal. However, with time, she realized that she needed to break free from societal expectations and prioritize her own happiness over traditional norms.

4/8

Going Through a Breakup

Breakups can shatter self-confidence, and Mahvash experienced this firsthand. She admitted that after her breakup, she struggled with thoughts of not being good enough. Seeing her ex move on made her question her own worth, but she eventually came to understand that infidelity is a reflection of the other person’s choices, not her inadequacy.

5/8

Her Lowest Phase

During her most challenging time, Mahvash suffered severe panic attacks, requiring hospitalization. She recalled being on injections due to stress while her fiancé, the one who had betrayed her, was still present in her life. She could not even confide in her parents, as she had fought for their approval of the engagement.

Calling Off Her Engagement

After enduring three betrayals, Mahvash finally made the difficult decision to end her engagement. She initially stayed silent due to fear of societal backlash but eventually realized that self-respect was more important than public perception. In a conservative town like Aligarh, breaking off an engagement was controversial, but she chose her dignity over societal judgment.

7/8

Losing Confidence

Mahvash admitted that her self-esteem took a major hit. She even questioned her own attractiveness and abilities after reading messages from her ex to another woman. However, she now sees those struggles as a learning experience, believing that everything happened for a reason and ultimately led to her personal growth and strength.

8/8

On physical intimacy with her partner

Mahvash revealed that in six years of her relationship with the guy, three years of dating and three years of being engaged, she was never physically involved. She said, “We never had it. Because it happens after marriage and we were not even allowed to talk about ‘it’.”
