From bearing the shock of his father's demise at a young age to giving his sister a grand wedding from Laughter Challenge's earnings; Kapil Sharma on his mother's unwavering support

Kapil Sharma is all set to return with the third season of The Great Indian Kapil Show. The comedian has made a huge mark in the Industry, but before reaching this success, he also had an extremely low phase. In a candid chat for his cousin's podcast, he recalled the tough phase after his father's demise, his mother's support and more.

Kapil talks about his father's critical condition

I think a lot of things are not in our hands, not in our control, but I feel like we have to be strong during that time. I just felt like I needed to be very strong. I remember when my father got admitted to Delhi’s hospital, during the last 3-4 days in the ICU, my uncle, who used to stay in Delhi, even papa used to respect him a lot. He stood there with me like a pillar. Also See: The Great Indian Kapil Show 3: Kapil Sharma teases Navjot Singh Sidhu for his hefty fees; says ‘Grateful to the platform for a budget that could afford Sidhu Paaji’

Kapil recalls the call from the hospital

When my father passed away, my Tauji and I were taking his mortal remains back home. I still remember I had just come to his place to freshen up and we got a call from the hospital that we can take my father home, at first I thought he must have recovered and I asked my Tauji to confirm, that is when they said, 'you can take him, he is no more'. At that point in time, I had no idea how to react.

Kapil recalls how his Tauji was his biggest support during his father's demise

I remember packing my things and going to the hospital with my uncle. I saw Tauji completing all the formalities in the hospital, and he didn't cry even once. Even I was numb, didn't know how to react at that time. But then my uncle's close friend came to see us off as we were going back to Amritsar, and that is when my uncle cried inconsolably. I felt so back, that how sad it would be for an elder brother to lose his younger sibling.

Kapil broke down in tears during the last rites

During the journey from Delhi to Amritsar, I kept myself busy with all the tasks that were left, and I was barely 23. We needed a lot of ice for the entire journey for my father's mortal remains, as it was summertime. We halted at Jalandhar to get more ice, and throughout, I kept diverting my mind and didn't go weak for once. But when we reached the last rites, I broke down. It was a shattering moment for me.

Lauds his mother for her support

The time was difficult for my silblings, me and my mom. I salute my mom, she’s also such a strong lady, We can still go out with our friends to talk, to feel better, to distract our mind. but for my mother, her three children were the only ones. The eldest son was of 24 years old, the younger was 23. For my mom, it was tough, but she didn’t let anything reflect on her face that tells us that she’s sad.

Family members brought cash to help Kapil

When my younger sister got married, all the relatives from Delhi ahd come and all of them got cash with them as they thought that our father wasn't there so how would we manage all the expenses of the marriage. So there shouldn't be any issue of money. But actually, when my sister got engaged, there was 6 months gap for the wedding and amid that a miracle happened.

How Kapil's miraculous victory in Laughter Challenge helped him

I got selected in Laughter Challenge and I won the show. So then I started getting shows and with that I earned a lot of money before the wedding. That is when I decided that I will give my sister a grand wedding and do everything in the best possible way. So when all the relatives came, they saw the arrangements and were really happy and proud of me.

When Kapil started appearing on TV

They knew that I started coming on the TV, but they didn’t know if I was able to earn money or not, as everything was relatively new. That is the time I felt like, from the day papa rabb ke paas gaye, he must be sitting my god's side and getting things done faster for me.
