From a container home to an outdoor kitchenette: An inside tour of Chhavi Mittal's functional farm house

Chhavi Mittal and her family are blissfully living the farm life in their carefully and thoughtfully done farm house, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. While the actress had given a tour of the outdoors with a big walking/running track, gym area and a lot more, she recently gave an inside tour of the prefab structure – the indoor setup of their farm house. Take a look:

2/9

An outdoor kitchenette

Chhavi began her room tour by showing the outdoor kitchen set-up. She said, “I loved the idea of cooking outdoors and it is not possible in Mumbai. We decided to have a small kitchen in the outdoor/balcony area.” They also have a main kitchen, which is a bit far in their big farmhouse area. They have built a functional kitchen for quick cooking with sink, induction space and a lot of storage. They also have to pull out curtains to keep the area dry when it rains.

The prefab structure

Chhavi explained that it is a container home made of Iron sheets and with the use of modern technology, it can be used in various ways. They got customised iron sheets, unlike the standard size, so that their rooms look spacious. “The best part about this container home is, everything was made in the factory, and it was just assembled here. The actual construction time and labour work was reduced to a great extent.

Taken special care of floor

Since it is a farmhouse and exposed to wind, rain, Chhavi explained that they kept tiles that are used in swimming pool areas for their outdoor flooring. “They are lock and lock tiles and you can do it by yourself. It doesn’t require any cement. They look pretty and easy to maintain,” she said.

5/9

A grill at the entrance of the room

With a glass sliding door at the entrance, there is also an iron collapsible grill set up for safety reasons. “Only glass door is not feasible, hence we have kept this grill for safety,” Chhavi said.

6/9

Furniture and look of the room

According to husband Mohit’s idea, the furniture is all wooden. Bed, stools, chairs, bed boxes to a lower extra bed for guests, everything is taken care of to make it comfortable. Chhavi opted for grey, teal blue and teal green for the interiors. Several elements have been added to give it a rustic and rural vibe.

7/9

Functional areas

There’s a functional cabinet with a mirror attached, a coffee station with a lot of plug points. The bathroom is also basic which fulfills the necessities. They also have a fridge and mini fridge in the rooms.

8/9

Upper floor

They have a balcony space upstairs with the same flooring as the ground floor. The room upstairs is in teal green. It has a big floor to roof window overlooking nature. The upstairs room is for the kids. The bedside has inbuilt lamps so that it doesn’t fall in case the kids play. The room also boasts of a special hand print paint of all the family members. It gives an entire view of the room.

9/9

To keep insects away

They also have a collapsible net structure to keep insects away. She shared, “Amidst nature, there are a lot of insects that come. Some insects you probably haven’t even seen.” There’s also an insect repellent lamp.
