Exclusive - Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah's Swati Sharma aka Chakori from Bhootni track; says 'Always been a fan, working on TMKOC is a dream come true'

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been dominating the TRP charts, thanks to its latest 'Bhootni' track. The iconic sitcom, which has been entertaining audiences for over 17 years, has claimed the number one spot for the past three weeks, overtaking several other shows. Viewers are loving the new horror-comedy twist, which has added fresh energy to the series. Swati Sharma, who plays Chakori aka the 'Bhootni,' is thrilled to be part of the show. In an exclusive conversation with Times of India TV, she opened up about her experience playing the character, her first day on set, and working alongside the cast. On being a part of TMKOC

It feels wonderful to be a part of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. The work environment is amazing, everyone is kind, and I’m learning a lot — so I’m genuinely happy. The show has been on air for 17 years and continues to be loved by generations of viewers. When I first got the offer, I was told that the role of Chakori was for just a few episodes. Even though it was a short appearance, I wanted to make it count. I believed that if I could leave a strong impression, people would want to see more of me. I gave it my best, and I’m proud of what I did. (Photo: Instagram)

I have been a fan of the show

I’ve always been a huge fan of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, and getting the chance to work here is truly a dream come true. I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity. (Photo: Instagram)

Performing the first scene

My first scene was with Popatlal ji where he pricks the throne from my leg and it was a very cute moment. I was very nervous while performing the scene, and when I was watching Shyamji performing the scene, I realised woh ek beat bhi nahi miss karte hain. To match the energy, express emotions and say the lines was very difficult. He does it so effortlessly that people love him as Popatlal, but being an outsider and performing with him for the first time, gave me chills. I was scared I wouldn't go overboard with the scenes and there was a pressure ke kahin log mere punch par nahi mere upar na hassne lage, that was a challenge. (Photo: Instagram)

I remember feeling the pressure to get the scene right

It was a mix of excitement and nervousness. When I first arrived on set, everything felt so new and overwhelming. The energy on set was vibrant, but I was also a little anxious about my performance. I remember feeling the pressure to get the scene right. But once I got into the flow, the support from the cast and crew helped me feel more comfortable. As the day went on, I started enjoying the process and connecting with the character more. It was a memorable experience, and despite the nervousness, I learned so much on that very first day. Meeting the star cast

Everyone was very welcoming on the sets and they motivated me to perform my scenes well. Shyamji kept asking me if I was comfortable, Mandar sir also praised my work, Sonalika ma'am praised my look. I was not feeling well, so everyone made sure that I was being looked after and they kept asking me how I was feeling. They also gave me suggestions and it felt like I was with my family. On comparisons with old Bhootni track

Fortunately, I did not come across any comparisons from fans related to the old Bhootni track. In fact, I got a lot of positive messages from fans on social media. They have been telling me, aisi bhootni se toh darr he nahi lag raha, agar aisi bhootni ho toh pyaar he hojaaye (laughs). So, I did not get any kind of negative feedback. I have been only receiving love and positive comments. They have loved me for my performance and my role. I'm very grateful. (Photo: Instagram)

On missing an opportunity to work with Dilip Joshi

Yes, I missed the opportunity to share screen space with Dilip Joshi sir. Everyone has been reacting on social media and asking why Jethalal was not there for the Bhootni track and I really wanted him also to be a part of the entire track. Whenever I think of Dilip sir, I visualise him dancing with Daya, that particular reel always comes to my mind. I really wanted to share screen space with him and work with him. Woh hote toh aur bhi mazaa aata. (Photo: Instagram)

Swati on family’s reaction

My family is very happy, I think Taarak Mehta is one show which is watched by everyone and it is like a stress buster. I have seen people watching the show during their dinner time, whether it is the old episodes or new ones, they are addicted to the show. Even the new generation likes to watch the show, it comes with a huge responsibility. My entire family was very exited that I’m working on TMKOC and will be working with Popatlal. Everyone is missing Dayaben on the show also.

On bagging the role

I first auditioned for the role and the casting team liked my audition. They called me for the look test and I gave the look test in both the attires as Chakori and as the Bhootni. I gave a proper look test and did a photoshoot also. They liked everything and called me for the promo shoot. It was like a three four days proces after shortlisting me. Till the last day, I was not informed if I was doing it but fortunately, I got this part. (Photo: Instagram)

It is not the actor who plays, but we pity the Producers and Director of this show for indirectly promoting the cult of Ghosts and Bhootanis.
