Aadhar, one-tap cab services to smart lock systems; surprising predictions about 2022 made by Kinshuk Vaidya starrer Shaka Laka Boom Boom in 2004

Remember Shaka Laka Boom Boom, the show based on a kid ‘Sanju’, who owned a ‘magic pencil’ that could turn pictures into real objects? Do you know that the 2004 show made some surprising predictions about the future we are living in today? Yes, you read that right. In a uniquely written track, Sanju, essayed by Kinshuk Vaidya, time traveled to 2022 then. Though the idea came straight from the imagination of the makers, they surely tried their level best to predict the technology changes that the world would have seen by year 2022. Now that we’re already in 2022, here’s a list of well-thought technological advancements that were presented in the show:

2/8

SMECA vs Aadhar Card system

When Sanju time travelled to 2022, he was asked for a card named ‘SMEACA’ that seemed to be something like an identity card that stored all the biometric information. From all the major identification details to eye scanning, and more, it could track every information about him. Well, isn’t this something similar to the Aadhar system we have in India today? The system where not only our eyes are scanned but fingerprints and other important details about each citizen is tracked in a national database.

3/8

Taxi calling pole vs. Online cab services

Another scene of the time travel track showed how Sanju could call a ‘self-driven taxi’ by using a ‘taxi calling pole’. He could type his destination address on the keyboard offered in the ‘auto-driver’ car. Surprisingly the car even had an AI voice that informed Sanju that he would be taken to his destination free of cost. Coming back to our reality in 2022, we surely have similar easily available cab services which are just a tap away. An app wherein we add details of our pickup and drop locations and we’re done. Moving over to voice assistants, we have that too but still connected by our devices. In conclusion to it all, we surely are somewhere around what the Shaka Laka Boom Boom makers predicted, but not that ahead in time.

4/8

Eye scanning lock system vs RFID/Smart card key

Another technological prediction that Shaka Laka Boom Boom made was of the smart locking systems. When Sanju tried to enter his house in 2022 then, he had to get his eyes scanned through a device fixed at the entry door to unlock it. Well, aren’t we doing something similar today? We use smart card keys, fingerprint scanners for unlocking doors. Moreover, our phones and other devices have eye scanners, fingerprint scanners, facial recognition systems for unlocking.

5/8

Integrated GPS system vs GPS tracking on phones

Another scene of Sanju’s time travel sequence showed the police trying to track him and his adult criminal self through an integrated device on their bike. The device could track the criminal and inform the police about his/her whereabouts in no time. Right here in 2022, we surely have the ‘Maps’ application that uses GPS tracking that helps us locate any place from anywhere in the world.

6/8

Real like Video games vs Virtual gaming systems

In another sequence, the young Sanju and his grown up self ‘Sandros’ were seen playing a game that looks as real as it can be using an unusual device. Though the makers tried to give it a ‘real’ look using a movie scene, we surely have ‘virtual gaming systems’ today. While their idea was as good as it could get, in reality, the world today has gaming systems with high definition graphics that look quite real. Moreover, we have multiple gaming consoles that are almost as easy to use and give us the real feel as the Shaka Laka makers imagined.

7/8

Floating screens/objects vs Augmented reality

Another part of Sanju’s time travel track in Shaka Laka Boom Boom showed ‘Sandros’ working on a small toy-like laptop, the screen of which could be seen floating in the air. This is quite difficult to be turned into something real but we have seen technological advancements that make us experience something similar with ‘augmented reality’. However, unlike what it looks like in the show, we still need a wearable device and a screen for the same, today in 2022.

8/8

Time travel is still questionable

These were a few well thought about predictions that the makers tried to show in their future 2022. Though not that accurate, they surely tried their best to imagine a word that revolved around technology, which is the truth of today. However, they went quite far ahead when it comes to ‘time travel’. Time travel is still something that couldn’t be invented until now and we doubt if it would ever be something for real.
