My Lady Jane Cancellation: Edward Bluemel is 'really happy' after George R.R. Martin shares fan petition to save 'clever' show

Fans' campaign to save My Lady Jane from cancellation has received a significant endorsement. On Tuesday, Sept. 10, George R.R. Martin publicly supported a Change.org petition — which has garnered over 67,000 signatures — aimed at reversing Prime Video's decision to cancel the series after just one season. Edward Bluemel, who portrayed Jane Grey's (Emily Bader) husband, reshared Martin's post, expressing that the author's praise for the series made him "really happy."


In a blog post, the 75-year-old Martin wrote that he "really enjoyed" My Lady Jane, noting his long-standing interest in alternate history and his fascination with Jane Grey, England’s nine-day queen. He praised the series as a "clever and original historical fantasy" and commended showrunner Meredith Glynn, with whom he had previously collaborated on a shelved Game of Thrones spinoff. "Knowing her talents, it did not surprise me that My Lady Jane was so much fun," Martin wrote, adding his support for the petition. "Got to love the fans. I wish them luck. Jane deserved more than nine days, or eight episodes."


Bluemel's Instagram Story post also included a shoutout to Glynn, who he called a "writing genius." Glynn, along with Gemma Burgess, were the series' showrunners, and adapted it from the book by Jodi Meadows, Brodi Ashton and Cynthia Hand.


The news of My Lady Jane's cancellation came after the series had not only left season 1 off with a clear set-up for more, but also had developed quite a strong fanbase online, which prompted the petition.
