Bhalobasa.com to Guriya Jekhane Guddu Sekhane: TV shows that beautifully portrayed friendship in the storyline

Life isn’t life without friends. After all, friends are the ones who walk in when the rest of the world walks out. The beautiful bond among friends has inspired many across the world to write a poem, story or make a film on friendship. The subject is also explored in Bengali television, which is dominated by saas-bahu sagas and love stories. Sometimes, friendship has become the main storyline just like ‘Bhalobasa.com’ or ‘Guriya Jekhane Guddu Sekhane’. Sometimes, keeping focus on the family-drama, it became a parallel track but managed to win hearts just like how ‘Sreemoyee’ narrated a beautiful relationship between Antara and protagonist Sreemoyee. On Friendship Day, let’s take a look at the Bengali TV shows which portrayed friendship in a beautiful way. (Photo: Facebook)

@Bhalobasa.com

Snehashish Chakraborty’s ‘@Bhalobasa.com’ beautifully captured the essence of friendship in the story. The heart of the story was love, friendship and commitment. Teenagers Om, Tora, Tweet, Funny and Baptu were friends. They were full of life. The story, as well as the fresh cast, managed to strike a chord almost instantly. Madhubani and Raja Goswami, Ananya Biswas, Arindya Banerjee, Indra Dev were teenagers when they were a part of Bhalobasa.com. The show was so popular that Madhubani and Raja, who are married now, still referred as Om and Tora. The show also had Churni Ganguly, Kushal Chakraborty, June Malia, Dolon Roy, Shankar Chakraborty and many other seasoned actors of the industry. (Photo: Facebook)

Guriya Jekhane Guddu Sekhane

The show initially started with a beautiful bond between little Guddu and Guriya. The story immediately caught attention after its first promo was launched featuring child artists Pritha Ghosh and Abhirup Sen. The initial story was about two orphan kids, who stood by each other during thick and thin. Pritha and Abhirup made the audience fall in love with their performance. After a time leap Pratyusha Paul and Arya Dasgupta were seen playing Guriya and Guddu. Though the story took a complete different turn later and rather became a typical family-drama, the initial track of little Guddu-Guriya’s bonding managed to make many eyes moist. (Photo: Facebook)

Sreemoyee

Well, ‘Sreemoyee’ is a family-drama. But friendship played a vital role in protagonist Sreemoyee’s life, thereby giving the story a complete 360 degree turn. Protagonist Sreemoyee was living the life of a battered wife who is deprived of love and respect. She sacrificed her entire life for the family yet husband Anindya insults Sreemoyee. Neither her in-laws nor her children (except Dinka) give her any respect. Sreemoyee was facing all these without uttering a word until her old friend Antara came back into her life. Antara gave Sreemoyee the confidence she was lacking, exposed husband Anindya’s extramarital affair and inspired her to start afresh. Antara faced all kind of verbal attack but never stopped supporting Sreemoyee. She, in fact, sent Sreemoyee money every month, so that she can pursue education, meet her needs and don’t have to beg Anindya for money. (Photo: A still from the show)

Sokhi

Starring Debolina Dutta and Manali Manisha Dey in the lead roles, TV show 'Sokhi' beautifully portrayed friendship in the story. The paths of two complete strangers- Ishani and Kamala cross following a gruesome incident. Kamala saves Ishani from being molested. The girls become friends and start a new journey. They start protesting the crimes against women. (Photo: Facebook)

Gopal Bhar

The television show, based on the stories of Gopal Bhar, became hugely popular. Child artist Raktim Samanta played the titular role. The show beautifully dealt with friendship be it the relationship between Gopal and his Gopi da, despite a huge age difference or Gopal and his better half Parboti. While Gopi da is always there for Gopal and supported him in every possible way, Parbota had more of a Tom and Jerry kind of relationship with him (Gopal). Gopi’s character was portrayed by actor Lama while Parboti was played by child artist Sinchana. (Photo: Stills from the show)

Chuni Panna

The TV show, starring Tulika Basu, Debyojyoti Dutta and Annwesha Hazra, became quite popular right after its launch. The story revolves around bubbly girl Chuni, whose sole purpose is to meet a ghost. Panna, the ghost, gets offended when she hears Chuni speaking about her desire to keep a ghost inside a jar and play with it. She decides to teach Chuni a lesson and becomes the match-maker. Chuni gets married to her malpowa babu aka Nirbhik. Ghost Panna lives at Nirbhik's house. Initially, she did her best to bother Chuni in every possible way. But as the time passed, they became friends. The friendship between a ghost and a human takes a beautiful turn when Chuni helps Panna to fulfil her dream of running a catering service.
