India extends restriction on number of flights to and from UK till mid-April

India has now once again extended restriction on the number of flights to be allowed to and from the United Kingdom till mid-April. And till that time, Indian airline will be operating 15 flights a week, whereas British carriers will also be allowed to operate the same number of flights.

As per the reports, India had suspended flights to and from UK from December 23, 2020, in the wake of new and more infectious strain of Coronavirus found there.
Earlier, the Health Ministry in consultation with the Ministry of Civil Aviation decided to extend the limited air travel between India and UK till February 14, which has now been extended further.
The Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued during that time stated that the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will issue the necessary permission for limited number of flight operations and that there would be adequate spacing between flights scheduled to arrive at Indian airports, while conducting COVID-19 tests on inbound passengers.
Earlier, as per the records, almost 2000 to 2500 passenger used to fly to India daily on 67 weekly flights from London. Then after India allowed partial resumption from January 8, 2021, India allowed partial resumption with British and Indian carriers asked to operate around 30 flights weekly to a few metros here.
Then from February 23, the Indian Health Ministry tightened rules for people flying in from South Africa, UK, and Brazil due to new strains of COVID being found in these places.
