Bali reopened its borders for fully vaxxed foriegn tourists nearly two months ago. But in the last two months, only two foriegn tourists arrived in Bali. The beaches that used to be overcrowded stand empty today without tourists. According to the reports, in October, only two foreign visitors arrived in Bali which is heartbreaking. In October 2019, the Indonesian province was flooded with half a million tourists! Read less
But now with the ew Omicron variant, the chances of return of tourists to Bali are getting slimmer. Also the island’s quarantine measures are keeping tourists away. If the current restrictions keep the virus under control, the Indonesian government might ease curbs further to allow the tourism sector to rebound.
The government has made entering Bali quite a task for visitors. Forign tourists need to apply for a visa first that requires a local sponsor, then they must hold an international health insurance. Not only this, a 10-day quarantine is also a must.
While a number of places like Thailand’s Phuket and Vietnam’s Phu Quoc are allowing fully vaccinated travellers to enter without the quarantine mandate, Bali is making things difficult with many formalities and curbs.
It is understandable that Indonesia is fearing another virus outbreak amid the arrival of a new variant. The country has seen the worst outbreak after the Eid al-Fitr holiday in the middle of the year, which claimed the lives of over 140,000 people.
These might be the reasons that Bali is struggling to bring back tourists. The hotels and restaurants in the region have all their hopes on the upcoming G20 meetings which might bring more visitors to the province.
