Bangladesh travel updates: These airlines resume Dhaka flights; offer rescheduling waivers

In the wake of significant political upheaval in Bangladesh, major Indian airlines, including Air India, Vistara, and IndiGo, are resuming flights to Dhaka and offering rescheduling waivers to support passengers affected by the recent turmoil. The latest developments, as per the reports, reflect the ongoing efforts by these carriers to adapt to the rapidly changing situation in Bangladesh's capital.

On Tuesday, Air India operated its evening flight to Dhaka while cancelling the morning flight due to the volatile situation. The airline announced that it would resume its scheduled two daily flights from Delhi to Dhaka on Wednesday, with a special flight planned to bring passengers back from Dhaka. To assist travellers, Air India is providing a one-time waiver on rescheduling and cancellation charges for confirmed bookings made on or before August 5, for flights between August 4 and 7.

Vistara and IndiGo, two other prominent Indian carriers, are also resuming their operations to Dhaka starting Wednesday. Vistara, which usually operates daily flights from Mumbai and three weekly services from Delhi, had previously cancelled its flights on Tuesday due to the unrest. Similarly, IndiGo, which typically runs one daily flight from Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai, along with two daily services from Kolkata to Dhaka, had suspended its flights the previous day.

The recent unrest in Bangladesh has been driven by a mass movement demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. After 15 years in power, Hasina stepped down on Monday following widespread protests that initially began over a job quota scheme but evolved into a broader call for her removal. The political instability has caused significant disruption, prompting Indian airlines to adjust their services to and from Dhaka.
