But it’s not just that, the islands and beaches in Greece are also struggling with overtourism. There’s barely any space left on most of the Greek beaches because of the uncontrolled spread of sun loungers. It’s difficult to find space to unroll a tiny mat or just unfold a towel!
On the other hand, the protesters of the beach towel movement in some regions, are protesting because they don't want to pay the high rental prices for sun loungers. Some are even saying that since they cannot afford the expenses, they are not allowed onto the beaches at all.
On Paros island, the local islanders have even started fighting back in a bid to "reclaim the beach."
Paros is the third largest island in the Cyclades with a population of 14,000. As per official data, around 750,000 tourists visited the island in 2023. Home to several beautiful beaches, the island attracts travellers from across the globe.
