COVID-19 vaccination tourism could become a reality in Russia

Russia’s Sputnik V vaccination could be at the centre of a tourism programme starting this July. Reports suggest that Russia is working on developing a programme that will offer people outside the country to get vaccinated in the country. Russian authorities have so far been focussed on its citizens as far as vaccination is concerned.
The Sputnik V vaccine is available for citizens of the country, and also for foreigners who have residence, or have temporary residence permit. As of now no further information has been given regarding the programme, and it has been said that further information will follow once the programme has been launched.


The name Sputnik comes from the orbital carrier rocket that had launched the Sputnik I in the year 1957. It was the first satellite launch in the world, as Sputnik I was launched in the low Earth orbit.
As of March 2021, Russia has managed to produce 20.1 million doses of the vaccine, Sputnik V. As many as 4.3 million people had received the vaccine as of March 17. The idea of allowing foreigners to get the double vaccination was earlier ruled out by the country’s Health Minister.

This new rule could open new doors for tourism in the country, however, the execution of such a programme requires a lot of work. As of now, the country has seen a total of 4606162 cases, with a total of 829 new cases of coronavirus.
