Canada has once again extended a ban on direct commercial and private flights from India until at least September 21. This has happened fifth time in a row, and the latest move also comes in the wake of rising concerns over the spread of the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus. Read less
As reported earlier, the flight ban was scheduled to end on August 21, since it was first imposed on April 22 due to the second wave of COVID pandemic. Reportedly, Canada has taken this step amid the South Asian country's enduring struggles to contain the spread of COVID-19 within its borders.
The latest travel update comes just after Canada announced entry of fully vaccinated US citizens and permanent residents to be relaxed, despite America currently registering more than 100000 new COVID cases daily.
Referring to the travel ban, Transport Canada stated, "Based on the latest public health advice from the Public Health Agency of Canada, Transport Canada is extending the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) that restricts all direct commercial and private passenger flights to Canada from India until September 21, 2021, at 23:59 EDT."
The department further added that the Canadian Government will continue to closely monitor the epidemiological situation, and will be working closely with the Indian Government and aviation operators to ensure appropriate procedures are put into place to enable a safe return of direct flights as soon as conditions permit.
