13 subway lines. 23 wards. Over 100 districts and 37 million people. Welcome to Tokyo, the most populated city on earth. Now, where do you begin when it comes to the places to visit in Tokyo?The first thing to know about Tokyo is that each of the 23 wards is divided up into anywhere from a couple to a dozen different districts, each of which has its own unique style and/or function. Roppongi is the tourist district, full of embassies and vibrant nightlife and clubs geared towards foreigners. Akihabara is the electronics district, full of video games and everything electronic, both old and new, and a great place for shopping in Tokyo. Ryogoku is the sumo district while Harajuku is the fashion district. The list goes on and on.
Because there is so much to do and so many different districts worth visiting, it is best to group nearby locations and visit places in a sensible order. Although Tokyo is easy to get around using public transportation, it is still a massive metropolis spanning over 2,000 sq km (over 750 sq miles).
