A massive temple that is over 1000 years old, Vadakummnathan temple is one of Thrissur’s main places of attraction. This temple is known for a wide and beautiful collection of mural paintings. Some of these paintings are even older than 400 years! Among these murals, the Nataraja Mural near the main gate stands out. The temple premises also houses shrines of Mahavishnu and Shankaranarayan. The dance house of this temple, Koothambalam, is a fine specimen of ancient Kerala architecture. Located near this temple are the shrines of Thiruvambadi Krishna and Paramekkavu Devi, often considered to be the sister temples of Vadakummnathan. A real delight for devotees who believe in the power of faith!
