A staggering remnant from the royal days of Thrissur, Shakthan Thampuran Palace dates back to the time of Rama Varma Shakthan Thampuran, a past king of Thrissur. He was a great ruler and subsequently his rule is often called the golden era of Thrissur. The prime structure of the Sakthan Thampuran Palace has a two-storyed building and a conventional Kerala style Nālukettu. The grand nature of this palace is marked by the high roofs, extra thick walls, spacious rooms and floors paved with finely smoothened Italian marbles. The place houses a museum now that showcases bronze statues belonging to the period between the 12th and the 18th century.
