Yosemite firefall is a natural phenomenon, which takes place every year from mid to late February in Yosemite National Park in California, United States. For those who don’t know about this firefall, it is the time when a fire-like glow takes over water that flows down the Horsetail Falls over the eastern edge of El Capitan in the valley. It’s a brilliant sight and travellers from all across the globe plan a trip to Yosemite during this period, just to witness the brilliant glowing colours of orange and red. Read less
The phenomenon has been attracting and captivating audiences since ages now. Photographers flock the place to capture nature’s best on their cameras. But, to make this happen, there are a few important factors that need to be considered. There must be enough water at Horsetail Falls because it’s necessary for the snow on the ground to melt by the sun to cause lava flow over the edge.
How to view the firefall?
If you plan to visit the Yosemite firefall, then remember this phenomenon takes place between five and fifteen minutes before sunset. Also, reach the ground much before time as it is an incredibly popular place and all the good spots are gone too soon.
Things to remember
1) The National Park Service advises guests to park their vehicles at Yosemite Falls, then walk nearly 2.5 km to the viewing area near El Capitan Picnic Area.
2) Wear or carry warm clothes
3) Headlamps and flashlights are must.
4) Vehicles carrying disabled will be allowed to drive to El Capitan Picnic Area.
Dates: February 13 till February 25, 2021; everyday
Timings: From noon till 7 PM
