Those who want to avoid the malls and shop local must visit Inglewood, where along 9 Ave SE you will discover endless shopping possibilities. It was once Calgary’s main street, a rugged business and industrial hub, but has now been turned into an urban village complete with small local businesses offering new and vintage décor, fashion, unique giftware and funky items that you can’t find elsewhere. Make sure to stop by Crown Surplus, a family business that has been open since the Korean War, where you will find army apparel and items for collectors. Men should visit Kent of Inglewood that boasts the greatest cologne collection in the city, along with all grooming supplies every man should have. The Livery Shop, based in the red barn, offers locally made jewellery, accessories and clothing. For those without a green thumb but an interest in growing, a visit to the Plant is inevitable. The owner is often found here giving workshops and advice on how to take care of the low maintenance terrariums they sell. Funky, quirky and everything that is not found in a mall can be found along this awesome avenue.
