The goal of FortWhyte Alive is to encourage visitors to get out and enjoy nature, perfect for the family with kids who love the outdoors and need to expel some energy. The focus here is on education, engagement and inspiration, all of which can easily be found by exploring the park through numerous activities. Some of the features here include a total of five lakes, many kilometres of trails, an aquarium of the prairies, gardens, touch museums, bird feeding stations and more. One of the most popular activities at this park is the weekly bison safari where you get face to face encounters with this rugged and wild species. This bus safari is suitable for all ages and it is recommended you bring a camera to snap that ‘bison selfie’ and each tour lasts about an hour. Many visitors here enjoy the guided interpretive walks which teach you more about the animals and landscape while others head to the Sod House to experience what it was like to live as a pioneer. Many of the weekends feature special kids craft days and it varies throughout the year when and what is offered. Boardwalks, a nature shop, café and the chance for the young ones to drop a line in the water and take home a fish all await you at this epic outdoor family friendly park in Winnipeg.
