Malls certainly are a convenient one-stop-shop to all your shopping needs, but Liberty ups the ante by adding a generous dash of flair, history, quirk and lots of class to the very same concept. Established back in 1875 (with additions and renovations added in the 1920s) on Marlborough Street in Soho, this massive emporium is a jungle of interconnecting galleries—don’t be surprised if you come upon a fireplace or window seat while you’re meandering through—housed within a stately Tudor-style façade. Selling everything under the sun—from fashion, lingerie, tailoring services, shoes and beauty products to antique furniture, home décor, stationary, cookware, and gadgets—Liberty seduces you into retail heaven with its carefully underwhelming design and homey atmosphere. If you’re scrounging, pop by for a look; this is definitely a London icon, and one of the most eccentric and quirky spaces in the city.
