Bloor Street, between Yonge Street and Avenue Road, is known as the Mink Mile. It's one of the world's most expensive shopping streets, with designer stores from Chanel to Tiffany & Co. lined up like five-star generals. Just north is Yorkville, an exclusive, high-rent area of baubles, boutiques and bars. Though it's almost impossible to imagine now, back in the 1960s, Yorkville was a hippie haven, filled with folk singers and coffeehouses. Legendary clubs like the Riverboat gave musicians like Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot and Neil Young their start. Today, Yorkville is where the beautiful people go to see and be seen. For shoppers, Yorkville specialises in unique, high-end stores that sell merchandise you won't find anywhere else in the city, like the fun and funky Kate Spade New York boutique. A tour of Toronto's most upscale department store, Holt Renfrew, is a must-do.
