There has been a bridge on this site since the 12th century, and it used to open up so that tall ships could pass through to deliver their cargo to the market. Today, it is one of Venice's most-visited sights, lined with souvenir kiosks and gondoliers touting for trade. On market days, it's interesting to stand and watch as the traders trot over the bridge to stock up their stalls, and customers pile back over with their new buys. Read less

The iconic Renaissance Ponte de Rialto (Rialto Bridge) used to be the only crossing point over the Grand Canal till the 19th century; today, there are more bridges but the Rialto Bridge is one of the most recognizable symbols of Venice and a sight that you won’t want to miss.
