Slovakia calls itself a big small country. You might remember it as part of erstwhile Czechoslovakia. It was born in 1993 as an independent country, making it one of the youngest countries in the world today. Land locked on all sides with other European countries; it is snuggled in the lap of Tatra Mountains with caves hidden inside its folds and River Danube flowing through its capital city of Bratislava. Driving through Slovakia’s pristine landscapes that are yet untouched by the mad rush of tourists, you can see the pink flowers all over Tatra Mountains that are like the younger sibling of more famous Swiss Alps. In the Tatras some of the most beautiful lakes can be seen. Ski is a favourite sport and you find ski resorts, ski pads and thermal bath dotting the mountains. Small villages still maintain their innocence and they still celebrate the life as it used to be. Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia will surprise you with many Indian restaurants. The relaxed life on the banks of Danube reminds you of a perfect place to sit back and relax as you watch river on one side and bustling shopping malls on the other side. Like all old European cities the old town of Bratislava is full of heritage building eager to tell you their stories and amusing anecdotes. Historically speaking the land of Slovakia has been inhabited since pre-historic times making it a young ancient country.
