Better known as Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad zoo came into existence in 1959. It however opened its gate to common public in 1963. The only zoo in Hyderabad, Nehru Zoological Park is spread across a massive land area of 380 acres and is a premier recreation spot in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad. The Nehru Zoo Hyderabad aims at conservation and breeding of endangered animals along with rehabilitation of them with special attention to the endemic fauna of Deccan Plateau. With this vision in mind, Hyderabad zoo has till date successfully bred several endangered wild animals like Asiatic lion, royal Bengal tiger, blackbuck, thamin deer, swamp deer, sloth bear, jaguar and grey pelican.
