Vadehra Art Gallery has since its inception in 1987 worked arduously for the promotion of Indian Contemporary Art and artists. Situated in Defence Colony, the gallery worked with early modernists like MF Hussain, Tyeb Mehta, Akbar Padamsee, SH Raza and Ram Kumar, these were also known as the Bombay school artists and were emerging as a force that was redefining Indian art. The gallery supported exploration of what were then newer forms of art such as videos and installations. In the 1990s, Vadehra Art Gallery was promoting more private and public partnerships and was organizing retrospectives with the likes of the National Gallery of Modern Art. Over a period of time, the gallery has developed its own very robust collection of work and has even loaned some of their collections to Kunstmuseum in Bern, the Chicago Cultural Centre, the Singapore Arts Museum, Mori Art Museum in Japan, among others.
