The gentle waves that hurtle to the shore around the island are a bit deceptive, which becomes amply evident as you set out for a seal watching. The journey begins staidly enough but if the sea is choppy, the cruise can turn quite adventurous and is not for the faint-hearted. The discomfort will soon set aside as you approach Seal Rocks, which lie off the island’s rugged coast. On the rocks is located one of Australia’s largest wild fur seal colony. As the boat drifts nearby, visitors can see thousands of seals in their natural environment. They are playful and terribly inquisitive and approach the boat quite unafraid. The scene is both captivating and memorable. The 2-hour cruise also informs visitors about the history and various conservation activities on Phillip Island. Along the way you can also spot many kinds of birds as well as dolphins.
