Royal Museum

While the National Palace is the current residence of Malaysian King—referred to as the Yang de-Pertuan Agong, the Royal Museum (Muzium Diraja in Bahasa Malay) is his erstwhile. The building has been converted into a museum since 2013 and continues as a living legacy. Get a glimpse of royal life and learn about the role of a constitutional monarch. Explore the royal halls such as the Throne Hall where the King would meet his subjects. Learn about the five pillars signifying Rukun Negara, the five national principles—enacted to maintain social harmony and that are read compulsorily as a pledge by every school going student. See the area once reserved for the King’s successor when the monarchy would be in transition. Experience the royalty as you explore the King’s bedroom or the Queen’s office, their dining, cinema or reading rooms. The annex to the main building usually carries an exhibition that may include personal belongings (such as clothes and jewellery) of past kings.
Tips: You would be asked to remove your footwear before entering this museum. You can plan about an hour to explore this site. Royal Museum charges an admission fee of RM 10 for adults (13 years and above) and RM 5 for children (6–12 years). The museum is closed on the first days of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
