Soon, train travel from Chandigarh to Delhi in less than 2 hours

Very soon, travelling from Chandigarh to Delhi via train will be down to 1 hour and 45 minutes. However, this will be possible only if everything goes as per the plan of the Northern Railways. Recently, in a meeting with officials, General Manager of Northern Railway T P Singh said that their goal is to make the Chandigarh-Delhi section fit for 160 kmph to 200 kmph speed trains.

He also added that the railways is planning to make all the routes fit for such high-speed trains.
Reportedly, Shatabdi Express that takes around 3 hours and 25 min on the said route, travels at a speed of 110 kmph. Therefore, if the speed is scaled up to 160 kmph, the travel time will be reduced to 2 hours, whereas increasing the speed to 200 kmph will cut down the travel time to 1 hour and 45 min.
Apart from this, the railways is also planning to increase the speed of the train running between Chandigarh and Ambala section from 110 kmph to 130 kmph. Referring to this, Divisional Railway Manager Dinesh C Sharma said that to avoid accidents on this route, the railway board has sanctioned to build walls to fence the tracks. As per the experts, special care needs to be taken for sections where semi-speed trains are supposed to be introduced. The official further stated that the division had also submitted plans of tracks to upgrade the speed on Delhi, Ludhiana, Ambala, and Amritsar sections.
