Kaziranga National Park

Situated in the Golaghat and Nagaon districts of Assam, Kaziranga National Park is amongst India’s best-known wildlife sanctuaries. Home to the famed one-horned rhinoceros, it houses almost two-thirds of the world’s total rhino population. In addition to the rhino, you'll also spot a large breeding population of the elephant, wild water buffalo and swamp deer. Feathered beauties such as Black-necked Stork, White-fronted Goose, Greater Adjutant, Ferruginous Duck, Lesser Adjutant, and Asian Openbill stork make for an ideal muse for the shutterbugs visiting the park. Now, time for some Kaziranga National Park information. The best time to visit Kaziranga National Park is between the months of November and April. This is also the time to enjoy elephant and jeep rides. The park is open daily from 1st November to 30th April unless the management decides to keep it closed due to unexpected torrential rains for the sake of safety. The park remains only partially open between the October and May and is closed from June to September. After savouring all that info, the next obvious question is: how to reach Kaziranga National Park? Because it is situated in the remote corner of India’s North East, this popular national park in Assam is not so easily connected to other parts of the country. Hence, it is does not have direct access to the railways, air or highways. So, if you decide to come by air, make sure you take the flight to the nearest airport from Kaziranga which is located 74 kilometres away in Jorhat, Assam. The second best option is to take the flight to the Dimapur airport Nagaland. If you are coming by train, the nearest rail head is located in Helem (30 kms), Jorhat (90 km ), Furketing ( 75 km ) and Guwahati ( 200 km ).
The nearest railway station to Kaziranga is Furkating, which is 75 km away. Furkating is connected by trains from Guwahati, besides from New Delhi and Kolkata. If a road trip interests you, then reach the Kaziranga National Park from National Highway 37. The nearest bus stop to reach Kaziranga is in Kohara. Buses operating from Guwahati, Tezpur, Dimapur and Upper Assam all pass through Kohara. Finding a suitable accommodation is the next thing you would think of before planning a trip to the park.
