Located in Connaught Place in the heart of Delhi, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is one of the most significant places of worship for Sikhs living in the city. Sikhs from all across the globe visit this gurudwara in large numbers to offer their prayers to the eighth guru, known as Guru Har Krishan. As far as the history goes, the temple was originally a bungalow of the famous Indian ruler Raja Jai Singh. In 1664, while Guru Har Krishan was living at this bungalow, the city was hit by deadly epidemics of smallpox and cholera. Guru Har Krishan helped the victims in every possible manner but soon got the infection and eventually died on 30 March, 1664. Later, a small tank was constructed by the king over the well, whose water is believed to have therapeutic properties. Sprawling over a large area, the gurudwara grounds contain a beautiful temple, a community kitchen and a large pond. There is a langar (community kitchen) offered every day.
